Trinity SELT course

Excel College is a listed SELT course provider.

Trinity GESE (Graded Examination in Spoken English)/ISE preparation course:*

  • Course length: 6 hours
  • Start date: any Monday (see our calendar)
  • Maximum 15 students in a class
  • Minimum age: 16

*Please note we require a minimum of three students for these courses to run. Individual students requiring Trinity GESE and ISE preparation will need to pay the standard price for private lessons. Please see our price list for more details.

Excel College is separate from Trinity and the Trinity SELT centres. Excel College has no connection with the running of the Trinity exam sessions. The nearest Trinity SELT test centre is only five minutes walk from Excel College. We can help you to book the exam.

Exam fees:

  • GESE Grade 1-5: £150
  • ISE I/II/III:  £180

Further Leave to Remain (A1) 
For Further Leave to Remain you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A1 in Speaking and Listening. Trinity’s GESE Grade 2 exam = CEFR A1

  • 6 minute speaking and listening test
  • Provisional results on the same day
  • Certificate usually within 7 days

Further Leave to Remain (extension) visas  (A2) 
From October 2016, after two-and-a-half years in the UK, non-EEA national partners and parents on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement will need to pass a SELT in speaking and listening in order to qualify for further leave to remain. Trinity’s GESE Grade 3 exam = CEFR A2

  • 7 minute speaking and listening test
  • Provisional results on the same day
  • Certificate usually within 7 days

Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship (B1)
For Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level B1 in Speaking and Listening. Trinity’s GESE Grade 5 exam = CEFR B1

  • 10 minute speaking and listening test
  • Provisional results on the same day
  • Certificate usually within 7 days

You also need to take a ‘Life in the UK’ Test as part of your application. This is not a Trinity test. Visit the government Home Office website for more information about the Life In The UK test.
